Team Member Bio

Hello! I’m Julia and I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Christian University. I have specialized experience and a strong clinical interest in working with both pediatric and adult populations. My areas of focus include Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) for children who are deaf or hard of hearing, motor speech disorders, and adult neurogenic communication disorders. I have experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (AAC), aural rehabilitation, and evidence-based interventions for articulation, language, and voice disorders, along with fluency and aphasia.

Throughout my graduate program, I’ve gained comprehensive clinical experience across a wide range of settings and populations. At a day school program for the deaf, I worked alongside a certified auditory-verbal therapist to provide individualized speech-language intervention for deaf and hard of hearing students ages 4 to 14. My role included conducting dynamic language assessments in both English and American Sign Language (ASL), collaborating with teachers and caregivers, and supporting auditory access through troubleshooting hearing devices such as cochlear implants, hearing aids, BAHAs, and FM systems.

During my externship at a local rehabilitation clinic, I provided therapy and conducted evaluations for adult patients with communication and cognitive-linguistic impairments resulting from conditions such as aphasia, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and dementia. I collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to develop personalized treatment plans targeting speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive skills, and I participated in team meetings to discuss patient care strategies.

Additionally, in TCU’s Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic I treated clients ranging from age 3 to 86 with a variety of communication disorders. I utilized evidence-based approaches, such as Van Riper’s Traditional Articulation Therapy, Ultrasound Visual Biofeedback, Resonant Voice Therapy, and SPEAK OUT!® for clients with motor speech, voice, and articulation disorders. I also supported early language development in children with developmental language disorder through play-based intervention, and implemented AAC, ASL, and spoken language strategies for clients with Down syndrome.

I’m inspired by the opportunity to form meaningful connections with clients and their families while empowering them to communicate confidently. I enjoy using creativity and collaboration to make therapy functional, engaging, and personalized for each individual.

Outside of work, I enjoy writing, drawing, and anything that allows me to be creative! I love exploring new artistic outlets, whether that’s journaling, designing digital graphics, or crafting handmade gifts. In my free time, I also enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, whether we’re trying new restaurants, going on walks, or just catching up over coffee. I find balance and joy in staying connected to the people I care about and in making space for creativity in my daily life.
