Hi! I’m Cayla Canterbury, and I earned my Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Oklahoma in 2024, followed by my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Texas at Dallas in December 2025.
My passion for speech-language pathology grew through meaningful, hands-on clinical experiences where I saw firsthand how individualized, functional communication support can truly change a child’s day-to-day life.
My clinical interests include speech sound disorders, particularly childhood apraxia of speech, as well as receptive and expressive language disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Throughout my graduate training, I gained hands-on experience working with children with suspected and diagnosed childhood apraxia of speech across clinical settings. I implemented motor-based treatment approaches, including Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), and utilized dynamic assessment measures to evaluate speech motor planning and programming skills. I am also passionate about supporting children in developing stronger comprehension, expressive language, and functional communication skills that carry over into daily life. I also have experience implementing and supporting the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including introducing AAC systems, modeling language on devices, and collaborating with families and other professionals to promote consistent use across environments. My focus is always on empowering children with meaningful ways to communicate while fostering independence, confidence, and authentic connection. Across all areas, I prioritize strengths-based, individualized therapy that is engaging, practical, and meaningful for each child and their family.
Throughout my academic and clinical training, I gained experience providing both individual and group therapy across a variety of settings. I value strong collaboration with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams, as I believe communication progress is most successful when everyone feels supported and involved in the process.
What excites me most about being a speech-language pathologist is watching my clients grow in confidence as their skills develop. Whether they are mastering a new sound, building longer sentences, or finding new ways to express themselves, being part of that growth is incredibly rewarding. It is an honor to support children and families as they build communication skills that carry into everyday life.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, and finding simple ways to recharge and stay balanced.
